Typhoon Haiyan: Thousands feared dead in Philippines

Haiyan typhoon that hit the Philippines causing thousands of residents were killed . Until today , Sunday, November 10, 2013 , the death toll has reached more than 10,000 people in the province of Leyte is located in the central part of the Philippines .

Reuters released a senior Philippine police official greeting stating coastal towns in the country was devastated by a huge wave . Haiyan super typhoon destroyed 70-80 percent of the area through which it passes .

Most of the victims died from drowning due to rising sea levels , and because of piled rubble . Residents described as Typhoon Haiyan tsunami flattened homes and drowned hundreds of people in the city .

The death toll today rose significantly from initial estimates said Saturday that there were at least 1,000 people died . "Last night we had a meeting with the governor and officials . The government says based on their estimates , currently has 10,000 people who died , "said Elmer Soria from the police .

City officials are now struggling to evacuate the bodies and sent food supplies to those who survive . The government also reported widespread looting in various shops . Authorities are still trying to restore order and repair the damaged communication networks .
